All the photos in it were shot & put together in a creative little photo edit by Cronulla Rotary wife; Keiko Ellis and featuring not only the cars & bikes of our Show but the ladies of Cronulla Rotary who turned out on the day in their matching vintage attire.

2018: Our Event Director's Report

Our Event Director Ken Warburton penned up his summary of our April 2018 Show - here's his report:

What a marvelous day we all enjoyed casually strolling among the 70-odd Vintage Classic Vehicles & 12 Vintage Motor Bikes.

The Classic motor vehicles started arriving at the southern end of Cronulla Mall at 6:30am, as usual l like to personally meet and greet all of our guests as they enter the mall. This gives me a chance to say a BIG HELLO & extend a warm welcome. l think that it is very important to make people feel welcome to our beautiful 'Shire' & especially here in the beach side suburb of Cronulla.

The unseasonable warm weather promoted nearby wildfires on the
surrounding edges of the Sutherland Shire. A large smoke pall from those
fires was carried out over the ocean by westerly winds, covering Cronulla
with a distinct brown filtered haze and the unmistakable aroma of burning wood.

Mean while my partner in crime, Jim Allingham, (from the Model A Ford Club) is simultaneously meeting and greeting the Vintage vehicles arriving into Peryman Square which is located on North Cronulla Beach and is a short 5-minute walk from the Cronulla Mall.

This year I decided to increase the vehicle entrance numbers to approximately 70, due to increased demand from people requesting to join our exclusive Pre-WWII Vintage Car and Bike Show, so l decided to expand the exhibition into Peryman Square.

This year we beefed up our seaside display in Cronulla's Peryman Square and it proved to be a big hit with the strolling crowds admiring our vehicles in this salty location.

Photo: Steve Core

l must come clean and tell you that leading up to the event, l have had many anxious thoughts and moments as to whether our expansion move would be successful.

Well now, let me tell you that the adventure to expand into Peryman Square was a HUGE hit.

We nailed it, as you can see by the photo of Jo DeVries 1932 Packard Roadster which is exhibited in the 'Money Shot' position [below] within a stone's throw of the Pacific Ocean. Why wouldn't you love it?

The '32 Packard Roadster basks in the limelight of our new seaside center stage.
This circular display spot affirms the by-the-ocean roots of our Cronulla home town.

There were many highlights to the day, l really enjoyed all the volunteers from Cronulla Rotary and various other volunteers that bothered to attend the event in period costumes. It really adds to the ambiance and fits in well with the Vintage theme that we are trying to create.

Many of our enthusiast crowd got into the spirit of the event by
turning out in period costume. Here our Event Director, Ken Warburton
poses with sartorially elegant sisters Suzanna & Eszter.

Next year, l think that we should organise a Best dressed competition for the spectators, we could present the winners (male & female) with a trophy. The more people we have walking around the Show's venue dressed in period dress the better the atmosphere. Trust me.

The widely various selection of very rare Classic Motor Vehicles and Motor Bikes makes it a Special Day.

Numbers were up again this year, may be our appearance on the 6:00pm Channel 9 News on Friday evening and again on their Sunday Morning edition helped our cause with increased spectator numbers.

The experts tell me that in the 8-hours of the show they estimate between 20,000 - 25,000 people would have drooled over these magnificent machines, many of which were well over 100-years-old and probably in better condition than when they left the production line all those years ago.

Netherlands based couple, Dirk & Trudy Regter's Round-The-World
1915 Model T Ford proved to be big attraction for Show visitors.

Photo: Steve Core

l must also thank Dirk & Trudy Regter from the Netherlands, right now they are circumnavigating the Globe in their 1915 Model T Ford. We are so fortunate that this wonderful couple could join us for the day at Cronulla.

lf you would like to have more information about this unbelievable couple and their journey around the world in their 103-year-old Model T Ford visiting all continents, covering 60,000 miles starting way back in 2012 you need to follow them on their website at Model T Ford World Tour.

My thoughts are starting to get a little long in the tooth, so l must try and reduce this report.

Vintage motorbikes always attract the keen eye of our show-goers.
In behind the bikes is Colin Wade's Model T Ford towing his Vintage 1933 wooden speedboat that raced in the first 112-kilometers long Bridge to Bridge Race.

Photo: Steve Core

First of all l would like to thank our Sponsors who supported our show this year, for without your unselfish contribution towards the Sylvanvale Foundation it sure makes things a little easier. Thank you all again.

We cannot forget why we are doing this. Our event this year will raise much needed funds for the Sylvanvale Kids Club. Our Kids Club is vital to the Sutherland Shire and surrounding communities. Sylvanvale Kids Club ensures that school aged children with disabilities are cared for after school, during school holidays and on week ends.

With support from the Sutherland Shire Council, the Sylvanvale Foundation, Cronulla Rotary members along with individual volunteers from other local Rotary Clubs in our area, l would personally like to thank every one of our special volunteers involved that gave up their precious time on Sunday to help us out.

The magnificently turned out 1935 Studebaker Commander Eight looking
extra sharp on the tiles of the Cronulla Mall - was a crowd favourite.

Photo: Steve Core

Without the Car clubs and Motor Bike clubs we would not have an event, thanks again to the Model A Ford Car Club, Model T Ford Car Club, Chrysler Restorers Club, Vintage and Veteran Car Club, M.E.G Car Club from Cronulla RSL, Buick Car Club, early V/8 flat Head Ford Club, Berrima District Historic Vehicle Club lnc, Sydney Bus Museum, N.S.W. Rail Museum, Museum of Fire (Fire Truck), Vintage Motor Cycle Club, John McDonald 's very impressive Indian Motor Bikes, Tony Blain with his Vintage Harley-Davidson.

l hope that you all tried out the BBQ menu. How good did the boys from the Chrysler Restorer's Club of Australia deliver the Minute Steak & onion rolls and the Sausage and Onion Rolls, (the secret to their success with the taste is that these auto-loving Chef's actually butter the rolls... makes all the difference you know).

Apart from the various Clubs we also have a contingent of Private collectors that share the day with us to show off their pride and joy.

One of the Stars from this years event was Colin Wade's 1933 original speed boat. This boat comes with a huge history, the original engine was supplied by Jack Lang (former Premier of NSW) This boat raced in the first Bridge to Bridge Ski race in 1933 and of course Colin still tows this relic with his Model T Ford.

Not all vehicles are turned out in pristine condition.
This 1937 Packard Six Touring Sedan was presented in it's 'barn find' rawness.

The sign on the window says; 'Yes, I do run and drive - but I'm not registered - please feel free to touch me and open my doors but be aware of any rusty bits'.

Photo: Steve Core

Before l sign off l would also like to say a big Thank You to Steve Core who is our official photographer, web site Guru, research officer, social media correspondent and looks after our Facebook and Website Page. Without Steve's help and advice this Pre-WWll Vintage Car and Bike Show would not be half as successful that it is. Thanks a million mate.

lf l have forgotten any one, or any thing please accept my apology.

l will sign off for now, thanks also to the local community for whole heartily supporting this great Community event to be a success.

Looking forward to seeing you all once again in April 2019.

They're here...

They're here: Dutch couple Dirk and Trudy Regter piloted their 103-year-old Model T Ford in fine style into the jewel of the Pacific, Sydney today and rolled right into one of the warmest Autumn weeks in Sydney's history.

Trudy and Dirk said they are really thrilled to be in Sydney and to see the incredible beauty of Sydney harbour. "we've only seen pictures of it all our lives - and now we are finally here" an excited Trudy said.
Dirk added "this morning we saw our first 'live' kangaroo hopping across the road in front of us, now, this afternoon we are looking at the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Opera House - what an amazing day it has been".

As Dirk and Trudy Regter transit across the top of Sydney's Circular Quay
on the Cahill Expressway, we managed to capture no less than four major
icons in this one quick snap from Ken Warburton's Model A Ford.
The Sydney Harbour Bridge, cruise ship The Carnival Legend, The Sydney
Opera House and Mr Henry Ford's marvelous invention that pre-dates them all
- the 1915 Model T Ford.

A welcoming committee of two; Event Organiser Ken Warburton and Steve Core were the advance party that headed north in Ken's '31 Model A Ford, 2-door, Tudor deluxe Sedan. We arranged to meet the Retger's at the Rest Stop just north of the Hawkesbury River Bridge and escort them down into the City of Sydney.

Our three-car convoy gained long admiring stares from all fellow road users and just about every car that passed us, the passenger had a smart phone held up and was taking pictures of our cars. All were smiling, waving and tooting horns. Even several Highway Patrol cars gave us the 'thumbs up' and friendly waves.

UPDATE: Model T World Tour - Cronulla bound

UPDATE: Model T Ford World Tour - Good news; after it's trans-Tasman sea journey in a shipping container, the 103-year-old Model T Ford arrived into the Port of Brisbane from New Zealand last week and has been cleared by Australian Customs & Quarantine.

Sporting his OH&S compliant Hi-Viz vest, Dirk Regter drives his freshly released
from Customs, Model T Ford from the holding yard at the Port of Brisbane.

After two-months of grand touring both islands of New Zealand, Dutch couple, Dirk and Trudy Regter picked up their car and have now officially commenced the 'round-Australia leg of their World Tour by heading south down the NSW North Coast for Sydney.

Finally on the road in Australia. Dirk pilots the Model T Ford over
Brisbane's Gateway Motorway Bridge.

The goal now: to be in Cronulla by the weekend of 14-15th April to make a grand appearance at our Pre-WWII Vintage Car & Bike Show on Sunday 15th April.

One of the first Australian stops in was an over night stop in the Brisbane suburb
of Redcliffe. Dirk and Trudy Regter lean on their Land Rover support vehicle.

*On the evening of the Tuesday 10th of April the Model T Ford has reached Armidale. Next stop is a 'Meet & Greet' function with electronic media present to capture the story at Club Taree on Wednesday 11th April.

Thanks to the Sutherland Shire Council

A big shout out to the Sutherland Shire Council who support our event every year by providing the Cronulla Mall and Peryman Square public spaces in Cronulla for us to utilise for the Car Show.

Also in the Autumn edition of the Council's 'Our Shire' magazine they give us a mention in the what's happening in The Shire pages.

The Autumn 2018 Edition of 'The Shire' magazine.

Socks & Model A's trump the Mall

Our happy event organiser Ken Warburton - spotted on the tiles in Cronulla Mall today in perfect weather displaying his Model A Fords to drum up excitement and enthusiasm for the Pre-WWll Vintage Car and Bike Show that takes place in a little over one week.

This photo was taken outside the old Commonwealth Bank in Cronulla this afternoon, in the photo you can see Ken's latest addition to the family, his 1930 Model A Ford Delivery Wagon with the rear doors open so that his 1962 John Rhodes 3-stringer surfboard hangs out the rear.

Ken has not ridden this surfboard since the Easter of 1962, the board is still in its original '60's condition with only one small ding.

Check out the "Socks" definitely a BIG hit with the punters in the "Shire" today.

Hopefully we will see all our followers on Sunday 15th April in Cronulla Mall and Peryman Square for what should be a wonderful day cruising around all the Vintage Cars and Motor Bikes and chatting to the owners of these Classic machines, taking all of us back to a bye-gone era.

Our event raises much needed funds for the Sylvanvale Kids Club.

There is nothing else like our unique show any where in Sydney.
